Neurones of the Mind

By scienceNo Comments

Warning.  May not be suitable for left brain processors.  Read with an open mind.

Most people associate ‘thinking’ with thoughts that occur only in the frontal lobe.  This is the biggest misconception.  Then they assume that the ‘mind’ only refers to the ‘thinking’ in the frontal lobe.  And they also assume that the neuronal processing only occurs in that region of the brain.  Using fMRI, they try to prove that parts of the brain is only actively involved and thus the thinking process is occurring only at a specific region.

Dr. T.F. Lee

By our team

Dr. Lee has trained on three continents: Asia, Europe, and North America.  Starting as an apprentice in his family optical business, he performed refractions while still in high school.  In 1982, he completed his optometry degree with honours from The City University in London, England.  Continuing his training in contact lens practice, he worked as an optometric consultant in numerous private offices.  He immigrated to Canada in 1989 and worked with the Grenfell Mission in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, a local hospital that serves northern Newfoundland and all of Labrador.  He flew to local coastal regions to perform eye examinations in adverse conditions with basic instrumentation.  This has enhanced his skills today with any pediatric and geriatric patients who are non-communicative and who do not fit well with modern instrumentation.

Dr. Lee spent a further two years in the University of Waterloo, Canada, and obtained his Doctor of Optometry degree.  He has passed his licensing exams in England, Newfoundland, Ontario, and British Columbia.  Currently he practices in Burnaby, BC.

Dr. Lee is originally from Malaysia and has lived in BC for the last 31 years where he met his wife, Dr. Sharon Wu.  His interest outside of optometry includes a B.A.(Hons.) in Theology.  He is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Malay, Hakka, and Hokkien.

Wearing these contacts has definitely made everything a lot easier. I don’t have to go through my day constantly worrying about my contacts drying out or not being able to wear my glasses while doing activities like swimming. They’ve ensured that I’d be able to see clearly no matter what time of day it is.

The staff at the clinic are also very friendly and efficient, never hesitating to help my parents and me if we have any questions or concerns.

Dr. Wu is currently licensed to practice optometry in Oregon, Washington, and BC.  She has appeared on Chinese TV talk shows to describe the benefits of orthokeratology.  She speaks fluent English, Cantonese and Mandarin.  When she is not at the office, she enjoys Pilates, reading, and traveling.

Our Philosophy

Vision is more than eyesight.  We trust our eyes more than any of our other senses.  In most cases, what we see is our only perception of reality and it directs all our actions, beliefs and judgement.

Pediatric optometry deals with one specialized aspect of human development, in this case the formative years that set the foundation for further learning.  As our eyes provide our sense of sight, optometry deals with the process of vision learning in children.
